Difference between TIPA and TEA

Dispersion is an important index of cement.

In many industries, triisopropanolamine has a wide range of applications.

For example:

  • Pharmaceutical raw materials

  • Solvents for photographic development

  • A solvent used for paraffin oil in the artificial fiber industry

  • Emulsifier for cosmetics

"What's the difference between the TIPA and TEA ?"

(In the application of cement and cement concrete)

TIPA has the following advantages compared with TEA :

  1. Better dispersion:

    TIPA alkyl chain and hydroxyl isomerism of the spatial structure, and make TIPA dispersion is better than TEA;

TIPA has better effect on cement production than triethanolamine(TEA), and the improvement of cement fluidity is better than triethanolamine in practical application.

  2. Early strengthening performance:

    Both are early strength agents.

But TEA reverses the early setting characteristics of cement, thus achieving early strength effect, while TIPA achieves early strength effect by promoting the early setting characteristics.

(The specific explanation is that, triethanolamine promotes the early hydration of aluminate, postpones the hydration of silicate, improves the early strength, but reduces the setting time; Triethanolamine can improve the hydration degree of cement minerals by promoting the hydration and dispersion of ferrate, which is difficult to hydrate, so as to improve the early strength.)

  3. Late strengthening performance:

TEA mainly promotes the early strength.

TIPA greatly improves the late strength of cement by promoting the hydration of refractory minerals and improving the dispersion of cement.

Foreign tests show that the late strength can be increased by more than 3 mpa, even 5-12 mpa.

  4. Stable application performance:

The application of triethanolamine has obvious restrictions on its dosage.

If dosage exceeds 0.1%, it will produces flash coagulation phenomenon sometimes, then affects the setting characteristics of cement.

The dosage of triisopropanolamine ranges from 0.001% to 0.2%, the enhancement effect will be gradually improved by increase of dosage .

Under the dual effect of rising oil price and increasing demand for ethylene series products, the price of diethyl alcohol monoisopropanolamine continues to rise, and the gap between the price of isopropanolamine and the price of ethanolamine has been greatly narrowed.

With the increasing attention to environmental issues in the world, the application of ethanolamine is gradually restricted.

Such as developed countries "pollutant discharge and transfer registration system" will be ethanolamine as a harmful substance and export ban.
