Why Are Gas Tanks Designed To Be Spherical?

In the chemical industry, gas storage tanks generally use spherical storage tanks, such as hydrogen, liquefied gas, light hydrocarbons and so on. We can explain it from the following aspects.

1, spherical pressure is good

Under the condition of the same wall thickness, the bearing capacity of the spherical shell is the highest.

2. The inside of the spherical tank is stressed evenly under pressure

The pressure inside the spherical tank is uniform and there is no concentrated stress, which also makes the spherical tank safer.

3, ball tank is safe and reliable

Spherical tank weld is good, not easy to leak, relative to vertical or horizontal storage tank is safer, horizontal storage tank as a pressure vessel can not exceed 200 cubic meters, and the volume of the spherical tank can be larger, but more safe and reliable.

4, save manufacturing materials

Under the same internal pressure, the wall thickness required by the spherical shell is the thinnest, which is only 1/2 of the wall thickness of the cylindrical shell with the same diameter and material. Under the same volume condition, the surface area of the spherical shell is the smallest, the wall thickness and surface area of the shell are the smallest, and steel can be saved during manufacturing.

5, the spherical tank covers a smaller area and is more economical.
