Development of Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer

In concrete preperation and application field, the chemical additive-polycarboxylate superplasticizer was mentioned often.

Development of polycarboxylate superplasticzer has to related with the concrete water reducer. Concrete water reducer as the name showed is aiming to reduce the water content or reduce water consumption when prepare concrete mixtures. 

People use concrete water reducer from long time ago, has developed the first generation of ordinary water-reducing agent represented by calcium lingnosulfonate and take the naphthalene formaldehyde water reducer as second generation high performance superplasticizer stage. From early 1980s, polycarboxylic acid superplasticizer was adopted more and more and has a sustaninable development.

Polycarboxylate superplasticizer is suitable for the construction of modern concrete engineering because of its good technical characteristics and environmental protection advantages.

The polycarboxylic acid system water reducer has low harmful substance content, small dosage, but high water reduction rate, good slump protection performance, reduce shrinkage and improve strength. These excellent characteristics make it quickly occupy the market of water reducer, and greatly applied to the actual engineering.

Also there are problem when using polycarboxylate superplasticer, like the adaptability of different types of cement, slump retention rate in high temperature, compatibility with other admixtures, etc.

It will take time to solve all the problems, but we believe that with the accumulation and deepening of scientific research on the basic theory of polycarboxylate superplastifier and the summary and improvement of engineering practice experience, polycarboxylic acid superplastifier will be oriented to engineering with better technical economy, so as to promote the development of concrete technology faster.
